The annual happening Svalbardseminaret (Svalbard Seminar Series) is organized by UNIS in collaboration with the Norwegian Polar Institute and the Governor of Svalbard. This year’s seminar series starts on 17 January and offers lectures in polar history, research, and fine arts.

The seminar series is free of charge and open to everyone. The opening lecture features Christian Lydersen from the Norwegian Polar Institute, who will tell us about research on the different whale species in the Svalbard area.

Most lectures are held in Norwegian, but two seminars will be held in English: The presentation of the Polish research station in Hornsund (Tuesday 24 January at 19:00) and the art history lecture “Imagining the Arctic” (Thursday 26 January at 19:00).

The venue is Møysalen at UNIS, Svalbard Science Centre. The seminar series is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17 January until 31 January 2017 (19:00–21:00).
