Maaike works as a data scientist for the PermaMeteoCommunity project. She is co-developing a platform with Where2O and Telenor that will serve as a data portal and response system for monitoring permafrost and landslides. Maaike is also an active member of the association of polar early career scientists (APECS), where she holds a leadership position.

Maaike started her academic journey with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, followed by a Master’s in Space Engineering. She then obtained a second master’s degree in Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Finally, she earned her PhD in Computational Geodynamics from the University of Oslo (UiO), where she also completed a course in Arctic Seismic Exploration at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) as part of her PhD. Before her PhD, she was already familiar with polar research, and her field experience include fieldwork in Iceland, Antarctica, and on the Greenland ice sheet.
