Press release from UNIS and SNSK

Since UNIS was started in 1993, the institution has worked closely with Store Norske Spitsbergen Coal Company (SNSK).

Research and teaching activities at UNIS depends in many aspects on SNSK infrastructure in Svalbard. This applies to the facilities in Svea where UNIS has been present for many years. UNIS also depends on access to SNSK facilities for research and teaching in the Arctic Geology and Arctic Technology department. SNSK has also over many years supported activities at UNIS with a professorship.

The agreement signed yesterday by SNSK director Wenche Ravlo and UNIS director Ole Arve Misund facilitates closer cooperation on logistical resources and scientific equipment, exchange of information and data, and development of joint strategic initiatives. Among them is the establishment of SARI (Svea Arctic Research Infrastructure ), where also SINTEF is a partner.
