The Board of the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) has appointed Harald Ellingsen as the new UNIS director. Ellingsen will join UNIS on 1 October 2016.

Harald Ellingsen is 62 years old and currently employed as the Head of the Department of Marine Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).  He holds a PhD in Marine Technology and is researcher/professor in Fisheries Technology. Ellingsen has extensive experience from the higher education sector but also from the private sector.

Harald Ellingsen has worked at NTNU for the past 10 years, and led the Department of Marine Technology since 2009. The department has a staff of 140 and has a considerable portfolio of externally funded projects and centres.

– We are very satisfied to have Harald Ellingsen as the new director, says Berit Kjeldstad, Chair of the UNIS Board.
– He has great motivation for the job and he will lead UNIS into the future in a solid way, says Kjeldstad.

Ellingsen will start the four-year fixed term position on 1 October 2016.
