UNIS celebrated its 25th anniversary over two days with students, staff and distinguished guests. Minister of education and integration, Jan Tore Sanner, said UNIS the last 25 years has laid a solid foundation for further development of world-class research and education.
HRH Crown Prince Haakon and HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway visited UNIS students out in the field yesterday on the Longyearbreen glacier. They also got a guided tour inside an ice cave inside the glacier.
On Sunday 2 November the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg visited UNIS. Together with Minister of Justice, Anders Anundsen and Minister of Health, Bent Høie, she got an orientation about the UNIS HSE work and some of our research areas.
Wednesday the Indian and Norwegian foreign ministers visited UNIS where they met our four Indian PhD candidates. – It is important to further develop the collaboration between Indian and Norwegian universities, said Mr. Salman Khurshid, the foreign minister of India.
Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway visited our auroral station, the Kjell Henriksen Observatory (KHO), on Friday 1 February. Together with the Governor of Svalbard she got an introduction to the aurora science performed at KHO.
