UNIS Annual Report 2017

In 2017, 794 students from 45 nations spent shorter or longer periods at UNIS. This included both course students and guest master’s students. 50% of the students came from programmes of study at Norwegian universities.

Deglaciation of the northern Svalbard margin

Oscar Fransner has studied the role of different glacial / non-glacial sedimentary processes in shaping the glaciated continental margin of the northern Barents Sea. Fransner will defend his PhD thesis Friday 4 May at UNIS.

Triassic development of the Norwegian Barents shelf

15 March 2018

Mark Mulrooney has studied the Triassic development of the Norwegian Barents shelf using case studies from the Hammerfest Basin (offshore) and Svalbard (onshore). Mulrooney will defend his PhD thesis Wednesday 21 March at the University of Oslo.

Welcome to Svalbardseminaret 2018

The annual happening Svalbardseminaret (Svalbard Seminar Series) is organized by UNIS in collaboration with the Norwegian Polar Institute and the Governor of Svalbard. This year’s seminar series starts on 16 January and offers lectures in polar history, research, and search and rescue in the Arctic.
