Green light for the Nansen Legacy

The Norwegian Research Council has approved the research application for the Nansen Legacy (Arven etter Nansen). The first research cruise will take place from 19 July 2018 with the new research vessel “Kronprins Haakon”.
New merit system for quality in teaching at UNIS

From 2018, UNIS will be a part of the same merit system for teaching as the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bergen. This represents a new way of acknowledging quality in teaching and learning efforts.
BioCEED Centre of Excellence in Biology Education granted status of excellence for five new years

After a comprehensive mid-term evaluation, NOKUT (the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education) has decided that CEMPE, bioCEED and MatRIC can continue as a Centres of Excellence in Education.
Learning Forum 2017

In October, the fourth annual Learning Forum took place at UNIS. The Learning Forum is an event where the entire UNIS teaching staff can share and gain knowledge regarding research based education, course construction and development.
Cruising Isfjorden – RV Lance’s last research cruise

13 students from the course AGF-214 Polar Ocean Climate recently spent a week on board RV Lance together with lecturers, researchers and technicians from UNIS. The research cruise was Lance’s last cruise before she was taken out of the Norwegian Polar Institute’s service.

Across the Arctic tundra increased plant productivity has been associated with the accelerating retreat of the Arctic sea ice, due to warmer climate. However, emerging studies document opposite effects, showing a more complex relationship between the shrinking sea ice and terrestrial plant growth.

The Aurora Forecast 3D app is released just in time for the dark season. It forecasts the aurora oval up to +0, +1, and +4 hours ahead in time at any location on the planet using a 3D graphical layout.
