A new master opportunity has been launched by DTU Technical University of Denmark, NTNU in Norway and Aalto University in Finland. The 2-year MSc programme will include a semester of studies in Svalbard or Greenland.
The students attending the UNIS course “Polar Magnetospheric Substorms” hit jackpot during their fieldwork the other week. The Aurora Borealis put on a spectacular sky show for the students, who are at UNIS to learn more about the northern lights.
For the first time the warm West-Spitsbergen current is appearing near the surface at 79° N. This means that the fjord ice on Svalbard is disappearing at great speed. The observations were made at a recent UNIS geophysics cruise.
