This week, the marine biologists of the FAABulous project (Future Arctic Algae Blooms – and their role in the context of climate change) have been on a research cruise with the coast guard ship KV Svalbard to Van Mijenfjorden.

19 March 2017

The researchers follow algal bloom development in two fjords with contrasting oceanographic characteristics (Kongsfjorden and Van Mijenfjorden), and are sampling monthly in Van Mijenfjorden. After a splendid first day onboard, weather conditions became pretty rough. But it is amazing to see what kind of sampling one can get done when it is blowing more than 30 knots – if only your ship is big enough. A great thanks to the wonderful crew onboard that was very helpful!
