During the last decades warmer Atlantic water has caused a retreat of the ice edge north of Svalbard.
In contrast to other areas of the Arctic Ocean, the largest ice loss north of Svalbard occurred during winter, shows new research by University of Bergen and UNIS.
In 2013, a total of 497 students from 36 countries took courses at UNIS (53 % women, 47 % men), an increase of 30 students compared to 2012. 52 Master's students worked on UNIS-related Master's theses during the year. A new strategic plan for 2014 – 2020 has been adopted in order to further develop UNIS.
