Klättermusen will dress up UNIS 13.12.06
UNIS has signed an agreement with the Swedish clothing company Klättermusen. The agreement enables UNIS students and staff to buy high quality clothes to a very affordable price. The deal, in effect from 2007 through 2009, is worth over 2 million NOK.

Yngvar Trygvessønn Gjessing, retired UNIS professor in geophysics, has been conferred Knight Class I of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, for his longstanding contribution to research and teaching.

Calibrating Cooperation 30.11.06
The Norwegian and Russian Upper Atmosphere Cooperation on Svalbard project was initiated this fall with funding from the research Council of Norway. Project partners are UNIS, University of Oslo, University of Tromsø and the Russian Polar Geophysical Institute.

The NORKLIMA (Climate change and impacts in Norway) programme of the Research Council has granted over 10 million NOK to two projects where UNIS has the role of project coordinator.

Arctic Winter Terrestrial Ecology is a brand new course at UNIS and has - in its first year - drawn students from all over Europe, from Spain to United Kingdom and Germany, in addition to Nordic students.

The first GSM online meteorological station on Svalbard in operation! 06.11.06
In mid-October the first GSM-network meteorological station was installed on top of Janssonhaugen. The station, located 20 km east of Longyear in the inner Advent Valley, is maintained and run by the Geology and Technical Departments at UNIS.
