I have been a member of staff at UNIS since 2006, currently on leave from my position at the University of St Andrews, UK.

My current research in Svalbard focuses on (1) calving processes and the dynamics of calving glaciers;and (2) speleological investigations of glacier drainage systems.

The calving glacier project is part of GLACIODYN (Dynamic Response of Arctic Glaciers to Climate Change), and includes photogrammetric monitoring of Kronebreen, a fast-flowing calving glacier in western Spitsbergen.

In addition, I am leading a long-running research project on the response of Himalayan glaciers to climate change.
