Research interests

Arctic marine ecology, with particularly interest in ice-associated (sympagic) and pelagic communities, focusing on population dynamic, distribution patterns, trophic interactions and energy flow.

Combination of field and experimental work, using standard sampling methods as well as biochemical tools (fatty acid and stable isotope measurements). Data interpretation by advanced statistical as well as simple modelling techniques.

Current research projects CLEOPATRA: Climate effects on planktonic food quality and trophic transfer in Arctic Marginal Ice Zones. ArcWin: The Arctic sea in Wintertime: ecosystem structuring due to environmental variability during the polar night. Monthly (July 2008 to June 2009) sampling of Calanus spp. in a high-Arctic seasonally ice covered fjord in Svalbard. Seasonal and daily migration patterns, life history, lipid dynamics.
