A SCIENTIFIC NORWEGIAN-RUSSIAN EXCHANGE PROGRAM ON HIGHER UNIVERSITY EDUCATION

Sponsored by Norwegian Research Council - Project no.: 185104/S50

For more information visit our site WWW.NORTHPOP.NO

The aim of the project is to develop a mutual scientific exchange within environmental chemistry based upon transfer of scientific knowledge, MSc, PhD students and personnel.

Main activity:
Medium-term research visits (3-12 months; 6 months in average) of M.Sc., Ph.D. students and Post-doctoral researchers. Research visits are an integrated part of each M.Sc., Ph.D. or post-doc project.

Duration of the project: 2008-2010

NorthPOP Institutes:
UNIS - University Centre in Svalbard
NILU - Norvegian Institute for Air  Research
UiT - Tromsø University. Institute of Pharmacy
  UiB - University of Bergen
NTNU - Norvegian University of Science and Technology

  SPbSU - St.Peterburg State University
VNIIM - All-Russia Scientific and Research Institute for Metrology
SRCES RAS - Scientific Recearch Center for Ecological Safety
AGTU - Arkhangelsk State technical University

Objectives

1) Joint supervising of MSc and PhD students
2) Organizing joint seminars on scientific and educational aspects within environmental
chemistry
3) Joint development of B.Sc and M.Sc courses
4) Establishing a long-term co-operation program.
5) Involving interested external partners (Industry, Academia, Education, Research institutes) in a later stage of the project

The project will hopefully contribute to a better awareness of environmental problems in the High North and will deliver important results for both nations. It should be stressed that the highly qualified (Russian and Norwegian) students and scientists, participating in the exchange program, will in the future most probably serve in key positions at national and international environmental institutions and, thus, be outstanding ambassadors for our developing scientific network.
