Accommodation

The student housing facilities in Longyearbyen is owned and administered by the Student Welfare Organization in Tromsø (SiTø). Please contact SiTø directly when you are admitted, to reserve accommodation prior to arrival. Please note that UNIS does not reserve or arrange student accommodation.

The student housing is located in Nybyen, about 3 km from the UNIS campus. Note that there is no public transportation system in Longyearbyen. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from UNIS to Nybyen.

The student housing in Nybyen consists of six barracks with a total of 142 single bedrooms. Please note that there are no family rooms or flatlets available.

Rent
The monthly rent is from 1. January 2010 NOK 3190 (ca. 400 Euro).
There is an accommodation deposit of NOK 3000 (ca. 375 Euro).

For short courses students the rent is from 1. January 2010:

1 week:  NOK 1600 (ca. 200 Euro)
2 weeks: NOK 2600 (ca. 325 Euro)
4 weeks: NOK 3400 (ca. 425 Euro)

Room facilities
The room is about 10 square meters, and is furnished with a bed including blanket and pillow. Please bring bed sheets, pillowcase, towels, etc. with you. The room also has a desk, a table, chair, wardrobe closet, lamps and curtains. There is internet connection in all the rooms. You share bathroom with one other student.

You will also share a kitchen with other students. The kitchen is equipped with a cupboard, stove, refrigerator, and a freezer. There will also be some kitchen utensils (knives, forks, spoons, glasses, pots, etc.). If something is amiss, you will have to buy it yourself. The kitchen is also furnished with tables, sofas, and a TV set.

There are also storage rooms, payphones, washers, and dryers in each of the barracks in Nybyen.
