Undergraduate programme/courses
Undergraduate courses at UNIS are defined as 200-level courses. The undergraduate courses require 45 ECTS – 90 ECTS from relevant studies at university level.

Interdisciplinary courses
UNIS offers some interdisciplinary courses each semster. Students applying for undergraduate courses in their main discipline may apply for these courses as long as they fulfill the prerequisites in one discipline offered at UNIS. The interdisciplinary courses offered are marked by an asterisk.

Graduate courses
The 300-level courses are for master- and doctoral students. Students must apply for each course separately.

Note: A student who has been accepted as a Master or Ph.D. student at his/her home educational institution may carry out parts of his/her Master or Ph.D. at UNIS. This requires a separate application and an academic contact person at UNIS. Admission guidelines are found here

Ph.D. positions
UNIS offers Ph.D. positions in cooperation with the Norwegian mainland universities. These positions are announced on the UNIS web page and in relevant media.

Field- and lab work

All fieldwork, excursions and laboratory assignments at UNIS are obligatory.

Academic Expenses
There is no tuition fee at UNIS, but in order to do a course at UNIS all students need to pay a semester fee of 420 NOK (ca. 55 Euro). Students already immatriculated at a Norwegain institution will recieve the semester fee bill from their home institution, whereas new students need to contact the Study Administration at UNIS directly after their arrival to pick up a bill for the semester fee.

For students partaking in a scientific cruise or excursion which lasts overnight, there is a fee of NOK 200 per day for food.
